How can I save on my home energy costs?

This winter, there are a few easy steps you can take to save on your home energy costs. You can…

  1. Find money in your thermostat by turning it back just one degree. Turn it back four degrees – say from 72º to 68º – and save even more.

  2. Find money in your windows and doors simply by caulking and weatherstripping them.

  3. Find money in your furnace by scheduling a winter tune-up every 3 to 5 years.

  4. Find money in your attic and crawl space by having at least six inches of insulation in place.

  5. Find money in your water heater by lowering the water heater setting from “hot” to “warm,” or by wrapping older units in an insulated water-heating blanket.

There are also programs and agencies available to assist you with conservation practices, weatherization and low-income energy assistance. For more information, visit:
